Bali is a place of culture - unique but strange to others, simple yet not easily understood, enduring and not forceful; but most important of all, a culture special to its people.
It holds them and gives them to war and through death. It would not be inaccurate to make the observation that Bali's culture is so much alive and part of its people that the Balinese are their culture and vice versa. This is why Balinese culture is so beautiful and mesmerizing. Anthropologists believe that the Balinese are an amalgamation of the ancient Chinese from the north, the Indians and Arabs from the west, and others who came to the island directly or through Java. But whether an amalgamation or not, the Balinese make lovely pictures with their golden and bronze skin, graceful bodies, long and glossy black hair, and charming smiles.
The Bali culture is the source of people's lives that it becomes essential to the identity of its inhabitants, with a completely different way of living compared to the rest of the country. Despite the mass of tourists visit the Balinese people has succeeded in preserving their culture.

The paintings in this catalog have been selected from the collection of Agung Rai. The entire collection, with works from the early century to the present, gives the viewer an idea of the evolution of Balinese painting in time, and the range of modern art in Indonesia. Dance of Fire (Fire Dance) is Ramayana Dance performance at the end of the show added to the Sang Hyang Jaran Dance performances. This dance is known as a colossal dance monkey dance involving 50 to 150 people dancing to a large extent composed of male players to wear clothing babuletan (fabric that is used in harmony diselinggi by several accents and ceremonies, etc.). Lighting used in this show is a lamp shaped like a temple arranged and placed in the middle of the stage while the entire top of the players sitting around outside. Fire dance brought the play "Kepandung Goddess Sita" (abduction of goddess Sita) from the epic Ramayana.
